Sony（索尼）於 1981年發佈 Mavica（Magnetic Video Camera）系列的數碼相機（Digital Camera / Digital Still Camera / DSC），Mavica 系列是使用使用軟盤驅動器（3.5" 1.4 MiB 2HD Floppy Disk，DOS FAT12 格式）作為主要記錄介質，是世界上第一台電子靜態照相機（Digital Still Camera）。Sony Digital Mavica MVC-FD81 在 1998年推出，是第一台可以拍攝視頻 162x112 60s 或 320x240 15s 16fps 和普通圖像 1024x768 的數碼相機。MVC-FD81 尺寸 133 / 140mm × 104.5 mm × 54 / 61mm（規格：140mm × 105mm × 61mm），重量是 575g（規格：580g）。
