相信大家都會知道現在的噴墨打印機已經不值錢了！但噴墨打印機的墨水盒（Inkjet Print Cartridge 或稱墨水匣）卻賣的很貴，祇要你買兩三個墨水盒的價錢，可能已經超過你的噴墨打印機價錢了，所以廠商銷售噴墨打印機是賠錢的買賣，但廠商要賺的是你購買墨水盒的錢，廠商利潤都在墨水盒裡！

HP（Hewlett-Packard 惠普）是採用熱泡式噴墨技術 (Thermal Bubble)，利用薄膜電阻器，在墨水噴出區中將小於 5微微升 (HP 現在最小墨滴量為 1.3微微升（pl）) 的墨水瞬間加熱至 300℃ 以上，形成無數微小氣泡，氣泡以極快的速度(小於 10 微秒)聚為大氣泡並擴展，迫使墨滴從噴嘴噴出到紙張上，墨水到紙面上形成類似絲網版印刷般的微粒點陣而組圖形，由於熱氣泡噴印是在較高的溫度條件下進行，所以其噴墨必須設計為低粘度(約小於 1.5mPa.s) 高張力(約大於 40 mN/m)，以保證長時間持續高速列印。

HP（惠普）噴墨打印機的噴墨頭是做在墨水盒上面的，黑白的墨水盒只有一種顏色的墨水，彩色的噴墨水盒就會有三種或以上顏色的墨水。一般來說，四色的墨水是最好的搭配，與印刷的四色相同（CMYK / C(藍)、M(洋紅)、Y(黃)、K( 黑色)），還有些高級一點的會有六種顏色的墨水。隨著顏色數量的增減，噴墨頭上就會有那麼多組小管子，一組數支的小管子只能負責單一顏色，利用顏色噴到紙上之後被紙吸收混合，就能創造出各種不同的顏色了。

三原色 (CMY)

HP（惠普）的噴墨打印機的墨水盒造工是很精細，墨水盒上集成了一個晶片，用於對墨水盒使用次數的記憶。當你的墨水盒用完後，即使你重新灌裝墨水，打印機也提示你沒有墨水，必須更換墨水盒，限制用戶再次使用，但自行添加墨水和重置晶片已經成為一們生意了。
